Money Saving Apps: Smart Traveling

Money Saving App Series

We all love saving money and BillCutterz has you covered. This is part 5 in our Money Saving Apps series: Smart Traveling.

Travel prices skyrocket during the summer months. Be a smart traveler; try out the following money saving apps before heading on vacation.

GasBuddy

GasBuddy finds the cheapest gas prices in your area to save you that extra money at the pump. You can search for the cheapest gas by city, zip or postal code so you can plan your stops ahead of time during that road trip. GasBuddy also gives you incentives for reporting gas prices like earning points, awards or a chance to win $250 in gas each week.

Skype

Planning on taking a trip abroad this summer? Instead of purchasing a pricey international plan from your carrier or going through the hassle of buying a prepaid phone at your destination, use Skype and pay as low as $2.99 a month for a subscription to call landlines and mobile phones in the US and Canada. Skype also allows you to instant message, voice and video call anyone else on Skype for free.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp also saves you money when traveling internationally. It is a cross-platform smartphone messenger that utilizes push notifications to instantly receive messages. Since WhatsApp works with your phone number through either Wi-Fi or 3G there is no need for extra PINs or usernames; it works just like an SMS and allows you to exchange messages, pictures, audio notes and video messages with WhatsApp users for free.

Tip: WhatsApp isn’t the only app of its kind in the market. Viber is very similar in features and services. Let us know which app you like best.

MyVoucherCodes

MyVoucherCodes uses GPS to find the best discount vouchers within walking distance of your current location, and allows you to download them straight from your phone so you don’t have to worry about printing. The app offers deals for eating out, shopping, health and beauty, entertainment, travel and more. It features 2,000 plus nationwide discount codes, and lets you share your favorites via email or Facebook.

Trivago

Trivago compares hotel prices of over 600,000 hotels from more than 150 booking sites like Expedia and Hotels.com. This means, instead of scouring each website for the best deals Trivago will do the work for you in one place. Simply enter your desired destination and travel dates, and all available accommodations are instantly displayed. Trivago takes it a step further by allowing you to refine your search results with a preference filter. Choose what amenities you’d like from Wi-Fi to traveling with pets.
