How to Shop Black Friday and Cyber Monday Sales

The Friday after Thanksgiving and the following Monday are the two biggest shopping days of the year. Retailers hold incredible sales, but the big problem with taking advantage of them is that tons of other people will too. Here is your guide to shopping Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.

Do Your Research

Most retailers, especially the major ones like Best Buy, Walmart and Target, will post their Black Friday and Cyber Monday ads before the big days. You can find ads posted on various websites like Black Friday 2011 or BlackFriday.info. There are many other websites that post Black Friday deals, but these two websites have the best design and navigation.

Make Your Lists

After browsing through the various ads for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, start making your lists. Pick out the items you want and prioritize them into “Must-Haves”, “Would-Likes” and “If-I-Have-Times”. The more organized you are, the easier it will be to find your products in the mad shuffle for amazing discounts, especially if you go at midnight.

Find the Floor Plans

To get a head start on everyone else, check out your stores before the big day and make a note of the floor plan. Find out where your products are going to be and take notes. Make a plan for your movements through the store to get the most bang for your buck.

Subscribe to Save More

Subscribe to retailer newsletters to obtain additional coupons in the mean time. Sometimes you can use coupons in addition to the Black Friday or Cyber Monday price and it’s best to prepare in advance. You can also subscribe to BlackFriday.info’s newsletter to get notifications when new ad scans are posted.

Plan Your Day

Figure out which stores you should hit first and what times. If you have friends or family wanting to help, a good team strategy is for each person to go to a different store and get all the items at once instead of everyone going to each store. This will help your chances of getting everything you want.

The Night Before

After your Thanksgiving winds down, prepare for Black Friday morning, especially if you are going at midnight. Get in a good nap and have everything ready to go. Some stores will let you get in line early so ask a manager what each store’s policies are. Once the time comes, get your coffee ready and go!

Online Sales

There will also be some discounts and deals available online. These will vary depending on retailer (Best Buy has some great online deals and their online customer service is open 24/7 for Black Friday and Cyber Monday). If you’re going to go out at midnight, it’s best to have someone at home ordering things online to be sure you get the items you want.
