10 Free Gifts Available Today

Budgeting and saving is not always easy and for most people, it can be discouraging and frustrating. Sometimes we forget the beautiful free gifts we have available to us every day. When it comes to personal finance and frugal living, often times it comes down to perspective. I find that when I focus on what I do have, I am a lot more optimistic about my financial future. Here is a list of 10 free gifts available today.

1. Love

Often times for parents, it is easy to equate love with money. An hour of quality time with your child just playing a game or making crafts can be a great way to show you love them without spending a dime.

2. Smile

Instead of giving money to every charity event that you come across at work or giving money to every person you pass on the street in need, you can make a priceless gift that can be given away 100 times a day to 100 different people: a smile. This gift is often undervalued but there are many testimonies to its power. A simple smile can brighten up someone’s day in a way nothing else can.

3. Peace

Frugal living and a good budgeting schedule helps you live a stress-free life. When you don’t feel pressure to work extra hours at work because you have maxed out another credit card, you can have the peace of mind to enjoy a simple weekend with family and friends.

4. Sunrise and Sunset

Who needs to pay 20 dollars for a pass to the art museum when at dawn or dusk EVERYDAY one can see a beautiful piece of art in your own backyard? Watch the sunset as a family after dinner or take your children out to watch the sunrise before school. They will foster a love for the simple, beautiful things by doing this free activity.

5. Silence

Skip Starbucks in the morning and enjoy a moment of silence before your day really starts. You may find that this habit makes the day much more manageable and saves you some extra change in the process.

6. Laughter

There is nothing like the feeling of a good belly laugh. Find jokes online and bring them to work or share with your family and friends. Maybe you do not have to look much farther than your email inbox.

7. Music

Since we can access music at any time from many different sources, we forget how amazing and beautiful it is. Introduce your children to different types of music from classical to world music. It is a free activity and will help your child develop a love for the fine arts.

8. Reading

With TV, radio, internet, and etc., we forget how good it feels to just read a good book from time to time. Instead of a night out at the movies, start reading a good classic novel as a family. Many movies these days are based on books. Start a family tradition of reading the book first.

9. Nature

Take advantage of the natural sites available in your area. You can take your family on a free nature walk and explore the plants and animals that inhabit the area. Bring a sketch pad and start a family adventure journal.

10. Kindness

Offering a kind word or doing a small deed for another is a free way to say I Love You. Start a habit with your spouse by doing secret kind deeds for each other. It could be writing a small note, making breakfast in bed on a Saturday morning, or just taking their clothes to the cleaners for them.

A great way to keep these free gifts at the forefront of your mind during the day is to put each one on a slip of paper and put them in a jar to draw from when you are tempted to splurge on something you don’t need or are disappointed because something you want is out of your budget. You will eventually find that setting aside money for bigger purchases or paying off a credit card debit isn’t as difficult as it once was because you have so many free gifts to enjoy.
